“Hidden” — A Poem by Sonma Williams

Love can be so sweet
That you forget there are bitter sides.

Smooth was her touch,
Calm was her voice,
Crisps was she,
But then …
That was all pretence
A wolf clothed as a sheep
She murders without sentence
Be careful before you leap
She’s the darkness of the night
She kills without conscience

Be warned! Be warned! Be warned!
Pay attention now, young son
Deceitful is the devil
Charming he comes
Pray for grace to see
Before you’re led home untimely
And your eyes water in tears
As your teeth sink deep
Into an onion in the guise of an apple.
