“It Dawned on Me” — A Poem by Chima Daniel

It dawned on me
that I’m in a world of vultures
where scavenging is a renowned culture
and carcasses of helpless dead souls are still tortured.

It dawned on me
that two wrongs can make it right
when souls listen to violence
and answer the call that subdues ego.

It dawned on me
that decorated lies are the new truth
satisfying the taste of modern youth
when everything is going sour and south.

It dawned on me
that lust is the new love
as most hearts aren’t in love
but want sex, pleasure and body moves.

It dawned on me
that the dawn is the future,
the present has a fading nature
and today is mine to nurture.
