“Temple Dust” — A Poem by Zoe

You say your body is a temple
and your hands are empty of ointment,
Would you make a lather with your teeth?
Would the glistening descend like a dove?

You say your body is a temple
yet your palms are empty of offering,
Instead, your hands are raised in apology,
and I wonder when this temple would refuse your dry palms.

You say your body is a temple
yet cobwebs linger all over,
the dust in your eyeballs can turn the bright skies brown
Pele o, temple dust.
