“Mutual Blackmail” — A Poem by Zoe

You give and you take
A champagne bottle for a glass of giggles
A warm body in exchange for missed cuddles
Toast bread with a cup of coffee
All for company and relaxation.

You give and take
A date for a break from your lonely thoughts
“A blank face is better than the person in your mirror,” you say.
Even when eyes roam the streets
You sigh and raise your glass
A toast for a choice made.

You give and take.
A break from your tissues
What’s more perfect than a show off?
Even if your heart is in the hands
Of a flirting bastard
So you click glasses with the opportunist before you
And nod as he chatters loudly about what nots.
