“Satire Song” — A Poem by Olukorede Badejo

Send down a cry to the African giant
Tell them a stone can kill Goliath
If muddled in the dirt and sins of their fathers
Sing and dance to the rhythms of my song.

Send down a cry to my African mothers
Tell them their fathers
Will feast on their daughters
Strip down their hearts shamelessly naked
Seek for strength in the rhythms of my song.

Send down a cry to my African brothers
Tell them their feet
Will trek round the borders
Tell them “Dem go waka,
Waka waka waka,
Search for hope in the rhythms of my song.

Dance and dance, oh, African giant
Dance to the tune and cry of my sax
Dance and dance and dance forever
Take no heed to the lyrics of my song.
