The Night’s Awake

The night’s awake!
A sleep of the sunlight and its rays,
shadows rising from the west. Then, higher, higher,
O’er all the sky so dark, forlorn,
The spec of dusk is born.

The night’s awake!
The night of a thousand fears and rests.
And silence spreading across the street
A pearl of rarest bloom
Tells forth another darkening.

The night’s awake!
Feet vanishing into cribs
With the laboured grinning in anguish.
Whispers of doom and gloom.
People! Torn and numb…
The scourge of darkness we dread, far too long
Has come, has come!
