The Truth About Everything

The wages of hard work is lost youth
They lied about everything
There is nothing like a fat bone
The patient dog will die of hunger

The reward for honesty is a cage
They lied about everything
There’s more honour among sinners
Than among two-faced religious hypocrites

Old age comes when the mind is tired
They lied about everything
The young ones are now old from worrying
Youthful exuberance is now a myth

Death has not been defeated
They lied about everything
Our loved ones still die
And we still cry at funerals

Life is truly an enigma
It always fascinates me
How we easily forget the good times
When the one bad day comes along

I acknowledge the good times
As I acknowledge I’ve forgotten them…
