Awele

Awele by Prompoet Buisi P.

Awele,
Drink some and leave
Your footsteps for men to tread
On the dreadful sheds of beauty.

Reluming between seasons:
The mirrored of ourselves
Provokes the remnants of beauty
Denied to us and dream.

Awele,
We sing down ‘udala
When the rumours of hunger
Yawns from our mouths.

Awele,
The fangs of a relentless dream
Doubts on clinging unto brevity;
Have the gods forsaken you?
Are you not your own deity?

The break of beats
Assembled into rhythms
Signalled the arrival
Of one blessed by ‘Chi‘.

Awele,
Let’s dream you
Because you’re the daughter
Birthed from the womb of the gods.
