Close-Call

She dodged a bullet
Fighting against history
Battling her instincts
Dabbling on Faith
Freelancing with fate
Her dearest heart
Faced its greatest foe
—Humiliation
It dangled from the roof
Of her beautiful home
Held by the broken strings
Attached to her husband’s wrist

A promised ring
Turned a weapon
Diamond cut lips
Became Sunday’s fashion
Caresses turned to punches
And punches gifted
Bruises on her skin

She dodged a bullet
Fighting against history
Protecting her dignity
From a ghastly man
Walking away
Chaining a beast
Before her daughters
Watch her body
Swim with maggots
Just like, she watched her mother’s body
Join the sea of forgotten humans..
