Lone figure of hope, beaten down
Weathered by tribulations
Skin etched by suffering
Sun’s daily rays drying out all hope
The hope for a better time
Lifeless breasts fallen with no will to dangle
Skin forced to age by daily exposure
Strength sapped daily in the heat
Might disappearing through the rain
Surrounded yet lonely
Humanity has chosen to forget her
On withered limbs she sits
Arms like twigs she struggles
Fruitless gestures, frustrating every second
Looking out the world through weary eyes
On a face set in a permanent frown
Unable to summon up the will to smile
Parched lips struggle to speak
Vestiges of a former beauty lost in suffering
Blocks for chair, sky for roof
Nothing more to do than hope.
