Escape

With espadrilles worn out like weathered stone
Blood drying from the marrow in her bone
And sight fading like colours without tone

She sauntered and staggered across the sandy plain
Away from where all hope was slain
And all emotions were overridden with pain
Bruised, battered, and tainted by droplets of rain
With no memories save from whence she came

Dragging
Cutting
Running
Escaping
Claiming women, dragging, cutting off
Cages keep from running, escaping use

The only words she recalled as sight blurred into memories
And she was resuscitated to tell stories
Of dark times
Of ghost towns
And of how it all began.
