The Hidden Truth Series—ZenPens

Continued from the last part…

Gideon’s POV

I woke up, I opened my eyes and saw three figures sitting on stools discussing. They were so engrossed in their discussions that they didn’t notice me. I scanned the place; it looked like a storeroom, the place was filled with bags of cement.

Who are these people? what do they want from me? I said within me. My hands and feet were tied up and I couldn’t move at all. My head hurt and I wondered why. Also I found out that I was very hungry. I cried as I felt the pains in my stomach drawing their attentions to myself.

“You’re awake boy,” the huge one at the left said.

“I’m hungry,” I cried weakly.

“You’re hungry? Sorry boy, come take this,” the one at the left said, offering a plate of rice to me. How can I take it when my hands and feet were already tied up? I looked at the food even more hungrily.

“Don’t expect me to give you food,” he said and dropped the food there.

The middle one looked at me, picked up the food and came closer to me. “I’m not heartless but you just have to cooperate with us. So listen to everything I tell you, and don’t think of running away from here. If you dare run…” He brought out his gun and showed me. “… I won’t hesitate to use this.”

I got scared on seeing the gun. I watched him as he picked up the spoon, took a full spoon and gave it to me, I ate hungrily.

Amelia’s POV

I was sitting with my mother in sitting room and watching a program shown on the television, when dad came in and requested we switched it to the news channel or he puts it off. Mom reluctantly switched the channel, I got really pissed off.

Then I angrily brought out my laptop to check on some friends on Facebook. I saw a message sent by Doris to watch the news.

A boy of nine years got lost yesterday night, the police have begun a search for him and have placed a reward on whoever finds the boy.

Immediately I placed a call to Doris and excused myself to answer the call. I rushed into the room and closed the door.

“Yeah Doris, I think we have a problem.”

“I know you would call. Chill girl, nothing is happening.”

“I’m not afraid, I just wanna say as far as possible since the police have released a search warrant and a reward for the boy. This is going to be a very big problem, we all got to be careful. Call Best too, tell her not to talk anyhow.”

“Alright, nothing will happen, let’s watch and see.”

I ended the call immediately, dropped the phone on the bed and sat down.

Mom came into the room immediately and sat beside me.

“What’s wrong mom?” I asked.

“Do you have any hand in what was said earlier over the news?” she asked.

I turned to look at her. “What are you saying?” I asked her immediately.

“What happened to the boy. I know you held him captive,” she said.

“What’s the meaning of that?” I asked innocently.

“I know you, you are my daughter, I gave birth to you, so why are you lying to me?” she asked.

I know mom, she’s also heartless, I can trust her with my secrets.

“Yeah, I kidnapped the boy, he’s with me. I’m gonna use him to succeed in my plans after all the girl crossed the line. Do you know Dave is actually in love with her, mom? Why can’t you guys proceed with the engagement stuff? what are you still waiting for? I watch everyday as Dave is being from me by that witch.”

“I’m sorry, I will talk to your dad about it then. But the boy shouldn’t be released now. I also have plans.”

Immediately I hugged her passionately.

Johnson’s POV

I watched as Clara cried like a baby, she was crying so bitterly that I almost joined her.

“What’s happening in my family? First it was Ava, and now its Gideon. Why can’t they leave my children for me?” she wailed.

“Everything will be fine, I will make sure of that,” I told her.

“I love my children, if anything… if anything…”

She started coughing. I rushed to the kitchen to get her some water immediately. Before I came back, she had already stopped coughing but was unconscious.

“Clara, Clara,” I called as I checked her, her eyes was closed. “This is not happening!” I shouted as I carried her and rushed to my car, I immediately put her into the car and drove off.

Ava’s POV

I sat down absentmindly at the court with Morris and others who were practising. Morris came to me and touched me lightly, I looked at her.

“I told you not to think much about it, okay? Gideon will be found later.” A drop of tear fell slid down my cheek, she used her hand to wipe it off.

“I don’t know how he will be faring now, I pray he’s fine now,” I said loudly.

My phone rang immediately, I picked it up, it was my mom.

“Mom,” I called.

“Your mom is currently at the hospital.”

I shifted uncomfortably. “Who are you?” I asked.

“Mr Johnson, your mummy’s friend, come to the hospital, your mom is in a critical condition now. I will send you the address.”

I ended the call and stood up immediately. “Mom is at the hospital, I’m leaving,” I told Morris.

“What? what happened?” she asked.

“I don’t know, take care,” I said, trying to leave.

“I’m going with you,” she said.

“No, continue practising, I’ll be fine,” I told her and left.

Johnson’s POV

I saw Ava running towards me. “Where is she sir?” she asked me.

“Let me show you,” I told her and led her to her mom’s room.

I saw as she knelt down beside Clara, she was sobbing quietly. I went to her and sat beside her. I touched her shoulder and she turned to look at me.

“You can cry on my shoulder dear,” I told her.She laid her head on my shoulder and wept.

Ava’s POV

“Mom, why? what happened? why are you here?” I said amidst tears.

“She will be fine,” Mr Johnson said.

“She’s all I have, I’m looking for my younger brother, and then my mom is here. What’s even wrong here?” I cried the more.

“Ava,” someone called. It was Dave. I rushed to him and hugged him passionately. “You got to take it easy, Ava,” he said as he held me tightly.

” Dave, how can…? how can I?”
