Night Crawlers

Night crawlers
Fleeing from the dark crevices of sleep
Where the past finally catches up with them
And they can’t outrun the future…

Night crawlers
So scared of the dark
That they light a thousand and one candles
As they set their exterior on fire trying to burn their interior…

Night crawlers
Whose soul cling to the waning light
Like a crackhead clutching his last shot
Who suffer withdrawal symptoms
If the promised dawn seem so far off…

Night crawlers
Not night runners
Not night joggers
Crawlers because they are tired of running from the dark.

Now you know why I like sunsets so much
They are the last tangible evidence that the Sun was once here
And the sole promissory note that the sun will be here tomorrow
Night crawler.
