The Hidden Truth (Part 25)

Continued from the last part…

Ava’s POV

I sat down with the girls after the day’s practice. It was already twelve midnight and we all were already feeling sleepy. My phone rang immediately and I picked up, it was my mom.

“Mom,” I called.

“I can’t find Gideon, I don’t know where he is,” she said sobbing over the phone. That sounds strange.

“What do you mean you can’t find Gid? Are you sure you are okay?” I asked confused.

“Come back home, your younger brother isn’t here. I’ve looked all over the house for the past twenty minutes and can’t find him.”

“Have you searched for him in Philip’s house?” I asked.

“Yes. Don’t ask me questions and come home. I’m afraid.”

I stood up immediately, looked at Morris and Ann who were fast asleep in the basement. I stood up immediately, Morris held my hands weakly.

“I’m going with you,” she said.

“Thought you were sleeping?” I asked as I wore my school jacket.

“I heard everything so I’m coming with you,” she announced as she got up.

I smiled widely, grabbed my school bag and ran upstairs with Morris as we rushed outside to her car. Then she zoomed off immediately.

I rushed inside as we got off from the car, I saw mom weeping silently as I approached her.

“Mom, what is it I’m hearing? What are you saying?”

She turned. “Thank God you are here, Gideon isn’t home. I came back—”

“Calm down and talk to me,” I urged as I knelt beside her.

“I came home, the door was locked, I called Gideon severally but no one responded. I went into the room and couldn’t find him. I searched everywhere, but there was no sign of Gideon anywhere. I called Philip’s mom, she said Gideon wasn’t there. Ava, Gideon is missing.”

“This is a police case, let me dial their number,” Morris said, bringing out her purse to get her phone, she dialed the number immediately.

“Officer, we need your help, it’s a case of kidnapping. I will send you the address shortly. Okay, bye.”

I sank into the couch as I was lost in thoughts. What made Gideon go out today? Morris sat beside me.

“Calm down, he will be found later,” she advised.

“I asked him not to leave this house when it’s late evening, I warned him. Now see what his stubbornness has caused us all. I’m worried Morris, I’m worried.”

“It’s alright, just wait for a little more time.” Then we heard the police siren and rushed out.

“Who among you informed the police about a kidnapping case here?” the inspector asked.

“I’m the one,” Kate said as I stood arms akimbo and I looked at them.

“How did you know it’s a kidnapping case?and who was kidnapped?” he asked.

“I think I should be the one to answer that,” my mom said coming closer to him.

“Okay, tell us then,” he said as he brought out their notebook.

“Then she told them everything she knew.

“With what you just told us, the boy in question isn’t lost yet, we don’t have any clues on how he was kidnapped. Secondly he wasn’t an enemy to anybody,” he said and I turned to look at him.

“What do you mean by that? Must he be an enemy to someone before he gets kidnapped? What of those kidnapped by serial killers? Tell me,” I said angrily.

“Calm down,” Morris whispered to my ear.

“Continue Inspector,” my mom told him. He just sighed as he averted his eyes from me.

“So we can’t give out a search warrant now until he’s back. We all have to wait for him, if he isn’t back, then we’ll begin the search.”

“Don’t tell us that, how can you say that? The boy in question is just nine years old. Start searching, then when we see him, we let you know,” I told him.

“Don’t teach us our work madam,” he told me.

“Allow the police to do their work Ava, get inside!” my mom shouted. I rolled my eyes and rushed inside.

Morris’ POV

It’s not Ava’s fault, I know how it isn’t. I’m really sad about this news.

“Officer don’t mind her? Please begin the search now,” I said to him.

“We don’t work like that,” he told me.

“Do you know me?” I asked him. He just stared at me. I came closer, then he recognised me.

“Morris? Ma’am!” he shouted in surprise, while others looked on. They all knew me, my mom once worked with them. But they stopped seeing me at the station when mom died and I was taken away by my dad to stay with my dad’s sister.

Amelia’s POV

I told her not to mess with me. Yeah I heard it all, I heard when Dave asked Ava out. I was so angry that I had to take action immediately. According to my plans, I had to kidnap the kid. Yeah, there are a lot of advantages I would get from it. This one act would make them lose focus own the up coming competition, and it will also hurt Ava. I smiled as I sat on the balcony with my juice.

“What’s up Amelia?” someone greeted. I turned, it was Doris with Best beside her. I watched as they sat beside me. “I saw your text, you just took up a very dangerous game Amelia,” Doris said.

“That shouldn’t bother you at all. It’s a plan you all will benefit from soon.”

“What about the little boy?” Best asked.

“He will be released after the competition,” I answered.

“Are you okay? The competition that will last for a month. Come on girl.”

“Don’t tell me what to do, I’ve told you all you need to know, so releasing the boy isn’t your business best,” I shut her up.

“Whatever it is, we are in,” Doris said.

“I know you understand girlfriend,” I said as we laughed except Best who rolled her eyes.
