Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
like the sun had fallen into the ocean,
like doomsday had been set in motion,
and sadness had overwhelmed my emotion.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for I loved her and she loved me too,
and we made one from two,
and only death would again make us two.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for death did come indeed,
hungry, he came to feed,
and ate her up in spite of my pleas.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for I loved her and she loved me more,
and she made living worth more,
but now I’m knocking on death’s door.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for death did reject my soul,
he had my other half and I seeked to be whole,
but death wouldn’t eat my bitter soul.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for I loved her more than life itself,
for her death I blame myself,
cause I made life jealous—
and she sent death herself.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
on a tear-stained piece of paper,
with a quill that has no feather,
because I have lost my lover.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines,
for I loved her more than I showed…
