Curtains

I remember when I was but a child,
I had a sister so dear,
She it was who made me smile,
And always kept me so near

Her berceuses were heavenly
Sweet notes, rich melody
Her loving arms kept me warm
Her heartbeat, her evidence of love

How I thought in my little mind
Lots of things to give her someday nigh
I understood not the ways of the world, that nothing good lasts for long

Plans and provisions are man’s to make
The resultant end, fate’s to bake
Today, my precious sister lies six feet deep
Only flowers I can on her grave to keep.
