Littera

A form of human expression
Writings that educate and entertain.
Words spawn to liven the soul,
Letters put together for learning,
‘Littera’…
A stage is set,
Curtains drawn while people
Depict the very essence of life
The tales of valor and love,
Being told in a common way,
Literature…

The skies painted in colours,
The moon becomes a dazzling lady
Flowers take the shape of humans
While cats and dogs are named,
Gwen and Desmosthenes
Horses becomes heroines.
The sun, a graceful goddess
Trees walk and dance
To the tunes played by the flowing waters
And frogs jumping on mushrooms
The very being of imagination,
Literature…

Values, virtues ably represented
Vices and evil rejected and warned against
Histories retold
Science and technology taken to another era
Right and wrong vividly depicted
Lessons taught
Law and principles to guide, clearly spelt out
Paths are blazed and patriots born
Love is over emphasized
And nature brought to your doorstep,
Literature…

Stories unknown are unlocked
Mysteries unraveled
Philosophies begotten
Wisdom enshrined
Hope thrives
Evil scorned
Life styles, parodied
Wit and humour refreshes
Religion enthroned and de-enthroned,
Literature…

The very essence and sum of life
Written on the sands of time
and spoken of by great orators.
Plato, Aristotle, Demosthenes.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sidney Sheldon.
St. Augustine, Dean Koontz, Bernard Shaw.
Mark Twain, Machiavelli.
Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka,
Chimamanda Adichie.
Ifeoma Okoye, Elechi Amadi.
The great Shakespeare.
All purveyors of the great art…
